First Blog Post, Engagement Session at Alki Beach in Seattle

The Blog.

It’s not something I’ve done since college and the days of Xanga. (No offense to the Xanga crowd, I just haven’t been on that boat in a few years.) Blogging has always been something I thought I would do in the future. Well, the time is now. I am starting a blog.

Every Blog needs a purpose, right? I guess if I am assigning purpose to this blog it is to share my photography, connect with photographers and clients, and share what I have learned with the world. Not exactly succinct, but you get the picture. I’ll share links, pictures, and personal info from time to time.

I’m hoping to post at least once a week, and possibly twice a week. But no less than once a week, I don’t want to be one of those bloggers.

To get things started off right, I’ll show you some pictures of a recent engagement shoot I did in Seattle.

It was an extremely windy day in Seattle and we only had a short time frame to shoot. Luckily, the clouds and the sun helped us out.

Technical Side note:

The setup here for those of you who care (I would like to make this blog as photog-friendly as possible), is a Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105 f/4 L lens. I used a Canon 580 EXII fired by a pair of Pocketwizard controllers (the MiniTT1 and the Flex TT5).

Thay and Minnie are having their wedding in August this year, so we thought we would get some good shots of them to use for their invitations and save the date cards. For a few of the pictures we included their adorable son, Tyler.

The location for the shoot is Jack Block Park near Alki Beach. At the very end of the park there is a platform with a great view of downtown Seattle. I had no idea it was there before this shoot.

I’m excited to shoot Thay and Minnie’s wedding this year because they have a two-day wedding. How crazy is that? Two days. The first day will be a traditional Cambodian celebration and the second will be a traditional Western-style wedding. That doesn’t mean western like Cowboys and Indians, it means Western like Euro-American Christian traditional. Although a western wedding would be fun too…

Well, I was just intrigued by it. I have thought about blogging for a while, but haven’t done it since Xanga. I joined Flickr today too, but I’m not as stoked about the layout there. I got a new camera and wanted a place to share my pictures that’s not limited like Facebook.
